Position:  Navigator


General Description: The Navigator will serve a key role in the system-wide assessment of homeless persons to match them to the appropriate housing intervention and assist with obtaining all documents necessary for housing program enrollment. The Navigator will accompany households from the assessment phase to the housing referral and assist through the lease-up process. This position requires high energy, strong professionalism, good presentation and motivational skills.

Partial list of duties:

·        Complete assessments

·        Utilize diversion skills with households at the front door of homelessness

·        Provide referrals to households who are at imminent risk of homelessness

·        Work closely with Shelter case managers to address housing barriers

·        Assist individuals who are homeless in gathering documentation of homelessness and any needed critical documents   

·        Assist in locating or identifying alternatives to divert from homeless system when appropriate

·        Accompany clients to housing appointments and serve as clients’ primary advocate

·        Complete in-depth assessments with clients, as needed, to ensure proper supportive services are provided

·        Enter data into HMIS

·        Attend all required trainings to fully utilize the Coordinated Entry System accurately

·        Provide regular feed-back to management regarding the Coordinated Entry process  

·        Participate in case conferences

·        Complete other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Partial list of Qualifications:

·        Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, preferred, with 2 yrs. experience

·        Demonstrated proficiency in use of Microsoft Word and Excel and in doing Internet searches

·        Proficiency in use of HMIS database program including entering intake, assessments, case notes, touch points and exits, or must be able to learn the       program and become proficient in generating reports

·        Be energetic, caring, responsible and able to deal with difficult situations in a calm manner


Work Hours: 

Mon. – Thurs. 12 noon - 8:00 pm, Fridays 9:00 – 5:00 pm; occasional weekend time. Regular, local travel required.

Position Title: Resident Monitor

SUMMARY: Provides basic service and supervision of shelter residents by performing the following duties.




Responsible for basic care of shelter residents by enforcing all safety procedures, cleanliness guidelines, and shelter policies, creating a supportive and culturally sensitive environment for shelter residents, staff, and volunteers.


Assist residents in identifying and resolving social or other problems in conjunction with professional staff, while enforcing shelter rules and guidelines.


Conduct litmus test, intake and orientation with new shelter residents/clients.


Create scan cards for clients.


Administer First Aid/CPR when needed.


Treat all residents and volunteers with dignity and respect.


Provide conflict resolution when needed.


Support volunteers in all assigned evening activities


Maintain appropriate documentation of client activities and client statistics as directed by Director of Shelter Operations.


Maintain security of the shelter through alarm system, drug test administration, and implementation of emergency procedures as required.


 Attend to client’s personal needs by providing supplies when needed.


Maintain cleanliness of the shelter by organization of supply rooms, shelter linens, kitchen, pantry, and other storage areas every night.


Support volunteers in all assigned evening activities.


Actively participate in agency meetings, projects, and task groups as needed.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This job requires supervision of residents and volunteers.  No staff supervisions.


EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); 60 hours of college coursework preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions in English, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: CPR and first aid required within 30 days of employment.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Frequent standing, walking, stooping, lifting up to 20 pounds.  Employee is expected to be on his/her feet 75 percent of the time.
