Volunteer Opportunities

Join Our Volunteer Team

Volunteers are integral to our organization- the support we receive from individuals, groups, and other organizations is crucial in assisting our guests create a path of self-sufficiency. Before completing an application, please read our volunteer requirements and expectations below.

Volunteer Requirements

All volunteers are required to:

  • Must be age 18 or older. This is to protect the privacy, safety, and dignity of our youngest guests. Any volunteer under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian present.  Unsupervised children are not allowed.  We recommend that very young children not be brought to the shelter while parents are attempting to volunteer.
  • Complete the volunteer application and have a background check every two years.
  • Attend a volunteer orientation and training.
  • Receive on-the-job training with a seasoned volunteer or staff member.

Please Note: No community restitution or court-ordered volunteer can be accepted. Please contact the Volunteer Manager, with any questions: awinfield@arlingtonlifeshelter.org or 817.548.9885.

Ways to Serve:

Donation Pick Ups: Help the shelter by picking up food used to provide meals to the homeless.  Volunteer drivers are needed to pick up food donations from various sources around the Tarrant County area and deliver them to the shelter.  Multiple shifts available during the week.  Must have your own car or truck with storage capacity, automobile insurance, and be able to lift 25 lbs.

Lawncare Maintenance: Keep the shelter looking its best this summer by helping us with our weekly lawn maintenance.  We need an individual or a team to mow and/or weed eat the grass.  Must be able to work outside.

Provide a Meal: Grab a team of co-workers, a faith group, or your family and friends and cook a meal for residents. We need Food Team Volunteers to purchase, prepare and serve a meal to 120 residents. This is a great opportunity for small groups interested in giving financially and volunteering.  Email awinfield@arlingtonlifeshelter.org for meal guidelines and available dates.

PALS: Partners of Arlington Life Shelter (PALS) is an auxiliary group that fundraises for the shelter and provides special events such as birthday and holiday parties for the residents. Click her for more information.
